PEDIATRIC PAIN RESOURCES
Children have a hard time explaining their pain in words adults can understand and they have a hard time getting adults to believe their pain is real. The organizations listed below will help you better understand pediatric pain so that you can advocate for humane treatment for those who cannot always express their needs.
AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOICIATION (AMA) PEDIATRIC PAIN MANAGEMENT
This is an educational module offered by the American Medical Association. Though it is geared to medical professionals, it does offer insight for patients and caregivers as well.
IWK HEALTH CENTRE (CANADA) AND DALHOUSIE UNIVERSITY PEDIATRIC PAIN PROGRAM
This Canadian based organization provides practical resources for all people interested in pain issues and pain care. Medical professionals will also find research and treatment information.
UCLA PEDIATRIC PAIN PROGRAM
A little hard to navigate (the flower is hard to read), but there is very valuable and useful information. We recommend starting with the "petal" that is titeled, "Ped Pain Clinic". From there you can click on "Therapies" and learn some interesting facts about non-medication based treatments.
YALE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE ANESTHESIOLOGY - PEDIATRIC PAIN
No nonsense site that offers both professional and caregiver information. Very nice coloring book for download if you have PDF function. Does a nice job of explaining some complicated issues.
